Oral Fluid

 

Oral fluid testing is now the technique of choice for both unannounced and for-cause testing. Sample collection is quick and easy, and can be carried out by internal staff trained in the operational procedures. Although drug detection windows are narrower than in urine, the presence of drugs is more likely to correlate with impairment.

Advantages of oral fluid testing:

 

• Donor under direct observation by collector (reduces potential for cheating)
• Donor and collector acceptability, compared with urine
• No gender collection issues
• Presence of drugs likely reflects recent use
